Research on the problems about plant protection practices in Manisa Province

Abstract
This study aims to establish the problems about Plant Protection practices in Manisa Province. A survey (in the form of interview) was carried out in 2008 with 50 agrochemical dealers far 42 questions, 75 farmers for 37 questions and 50 technical experts for 43 questions in Manisa Province, Salihli, Turgutlu, Alaşehir and Akhisar making dense agriculture. According to the results, 48% of the growers followed the suggestions and advices about plant protection practices made by the related technical experts, 52% of them followed pesticide dealers and neighbour growers, etc. On the other hand, 64 % of the growers use pesticide dosage which is indicated in the label, 65% of the growers dispose pesticides and fertilizer wastes, 72% of them harvested their products obeying post harvest intervals (PHI) which is indicated on the label instructions and 50% of them have obeyed the protective measures same as wearing glove, mask, eyeglass etc. during the pesticide treatments. Results were evaluated in the frame of human and environmental prospects and some recommendations were discussed.
