Choice of Nezara viridula (L.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) between leaf and pod organs of bean

In this study it was attempted to determine whether the leaves or pod organs of bean plant which is one of the important and economic hosts of Nezara viridula are preferred more. The experiments have been made in laboratory with 25±1 °C temperature, 45±5 % relative humidity, 16 hours light and 8 hours dark photoperiod conditions. Prefer of individuals is investigated in cylindrical cages were 10 cm in diameter and 20 cm in height which were made from transparent acetate. Plant part is taken in the cage to be one pod and one leaf in each cage. After that 20 individuals deprived of food and water for 16±2 hours are added in the cages. Individuals on the inner surface of cage, pod, leaf and stem were counted at 1st, 4th, 8th and 24th hours after foundation of the experiments. In assessments, it is seen that individuals in whole nymph stages of N. viridula have chosen the pod organ between leaf and pod organs of bean plant. It is determined that female individuals in preoviposition period have also chosen the pod organ but female individuals in oviposition period and male individuals have chosen the leaf organ.
