Abstract
Lichen planus is a benign inflammatory dermatosis involving the skin, cutaneous adnexal structures and mucosa.Cellular immune response to various antigenic stimuli has been implicated in the etiopathogenesis. Specific lesions are flat-topped, purple and infiltrated. The most typical sites are the wrists and ankles and forearm flexor surfaces. Lichen planus is also rarely found on the palms and the soles of the feet. Lesions in these regions may assume a yellowish color due to the thickness of the stratum corneum. Ulceration may be observed, in contrast to other regions. Diagnosis of lichen is clinical and may be confirmed with biopsy if necessary. This case, a 57-year-old patient with lichen planus diagnosed in the palmar region, is reported because of the rare location.
