Abstract
One of the experts who was transferred from Europe to manage Izmit broad-cloth factory was James Binns. James Binns’s wife, Ann Binns, kept a diary while in Turkey. Some parts of this diary were later published by Kathryn Whitaker, who was a descendant of Ann. First, it will be considered general view of the Ottoman industrialization in the nineteenth century with main lines. The problems which is determined was exposed throughout this industrialization practice after James Binns’s relationship with the Izmit broad-cloth factory will be considered. Finally, it will be taken up primarily themes in Ann Binns’s diary briefly.
