Abstract
The cultural heritage is one of the indispensable elements of tourism as a touristic product as well as the common heritage of the human race. While cultural heritage tourism continues to increase its place in the tourism market gradually, the current matters in the Middle East reveal that tangible cultural heritage is under growing threat especially during the armed conflicts. In the first part of the study which was carried out as literature search, the term of cultural heritage and its usage in the discipline of tourism are discussed, in the second part, the answer was sought for the question why especially cultural heritage is targeted and cannot be protected during the armed conflicts. For this purpose, the protection measures in the international treaties which aim at protecting the cultural heritage are introduced. In the last section, the place of the cultural heritage and cultural heritage tourism in the improvement works during the period after the armed conflicts is discussed with the cases.
