Abstract
Molecular markers are widely used to determine the level of genetypic variation in Medicago species and populations. In this study, superior alfalfa genotypes collected from 26 different locations of 13 districts of Antalya province in the Western Mediterranean Coastal Zone were reproduced via clonal method. 15 different SSR primers were used to determine the similarities among genotypes at molecular level. SSR primers yielded polymorphic bands at a rate of 99.7 %. According to research results; alfalfa genotypes were divided into 2 main groups and 4 sub‐clusters. In the first main group genotypes were divided into two sub‐clusters at 60 % similarity level while second group were divide two sub‐clusters at 65 % level. Similarity coefficient changed between 0.58 and 0.88 among genotypes. The nearest genetic similarity was detected between Kas‐2 and Variety‐1. On the other hand, Gazipaşa‐1 and Kumluca‐2 genotypes were found to be the most distant genotypes. The results of the study revealed a wide genetic variation in the genotypes collected from Western Mediterranean Coastal Zone.
