Abstract
Radiographic evaluation is mandatory in diagnosis and treatment planning in endodontics. The anatomy of teeth and surrounding structures may sometimes hinder the real problem and the interpretation of the image may not reflect the truth. Having the ability to examine the area of interest in 3 dimensions might be useful for diagnosis. This paper presents acquiring 3 dimensional images by cone beam computerized tomography scans, usage of images for varying applications in endodontics and the advantages-disadvantages of CBCT scan imaging compared with conventional radiographic imaging system. By using CBCT scans in endodontics, elimination of superpositions, detection of periapical lesions in early stages, determination the borders of internal, external root resorptions, detection of root perforations and accurate diagnosis of vertical root fractures is performed.
