Abstract
Platelet rich plasma (PRP), an autologous blood product, is being used in the clinical settings since the last decade in several areas, including dentistry, orthopaedic traumas and osteoarthritis, tendon rupture and wound healing. The fact that professional athletes have increasingly preferring PRP usage to conventional therapies has progressively attracted the medical field, leading to the development of 16 different PRP systems. The biological material release following the degrannlation of platelets, results in an increase of gene expressions promoting in cellnlar recruitment, growth and morphogenesis. The PRP preparation guidelines, the general usage in the medical and veterinary field and the scientific evidence are discussed in this review.
