Abstract
Cities are the places where the diversities and inequalities are experienced in differences such as age, class, gender, and ethnicity. Within the discipline of geography, cities firstly have been discussed in respect to the location choices and distributions, but beginning from the 1970s, geographers have started to focus to the social dynamics and inequalities in the cities. The study of urban inequalities that started especially with the Marxist theory, primarily have focused on inequalities based on class for many years. Yet inequalities based on gender were ignored. Critiques of this ignorance have constructed the feminist urban studies. Studies trying to understand the urban inequalities on the basis of gender have become widespread in English geography literature in the 1980s. However, in Turkish geography literature, there is still a big gap. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to stress the importance of the feminist perspective for the urban geography studies in Turkish geography literature. Within this scope, in this article, the changing dimensions of feminist perspective on the space studies and on the development of the feminist urban geography are explained.
