Abstract
Infestation ratios of Spiny bollworm (Earias insulana Boisd) (Lep.; Noctuidae) and Pink bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella Saund.) (Lep.; Gelechiidae) on second crop cotton varieties having different features were determined in the studies carried out in Kızıltepe and Akçakale plains during 2002 and 2003. The numbers of bolls infested and bolls having larvae infested with both injurious insects on the nectariless cotton varieties (ÇUNS-2, STV-825 ) were found in lower level. The lowest values were obtained on both hairless and nectariless cotton varieties ÇUNS-2. While high infestation levels were obtained from hairy and nectarous cotton varieties, the highest infestation level was obtained from both nectaried and glandless cotton varieties (NGF-63). The case of the features of nectariless and hairy being together can provide resistance to cotton plants against Spiny bollworm and Pink bollworm, nectaried and glandless together can increase the sensitivity against both insects. While the larvae of Spiny bollworm were determined mostly in Kızıltepe, the larvae of Pink bollworm were seen mostly in Akçakale.
