Living Conditions of Children Working in The Streets

Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the current status of the children working on the streets. Material and Methods:This study aimed to determine the current state of children 5-18 ages between (n=93) working in the streets in a city center, between 01.01.2009-10.05.2009. It is a cross-sectional study. Data was collected through face to face by using the questionnaire which was prepared by researchers. Obtaining data were evaluated by numbers and percentages. Results: According to the findings, it was determined that the majority of the children working in the streets were between the ages of 9-14 and male, they came from crowded families in low socio-economic level, they sold food / non-food goods and that they migrated from rural areas and villages and that they worked in the streets to contribute to the family economy. Conclusion: According to the study result, it has been determined that children working in the street are living under risk. It was suggested that the families continuing their lives at risk should closely be monitored of health risks and that families should be trained on family communication, child rearing, parenting and neglect-abuse of children.
