The Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of the Childbirth Comfort Questionnaire

Aim: This methodological study aimed to test the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Childbirth Comfort Questionnaire (CCQ). Method: A total of 280 primipara who were in the latent phase of labor, who were admitted to the delivery room of a Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital located in the Anatolian side of Istanbul, who gave informed consent, and who met the inclusion criteria were recruited for the study. Data collection was carried out between May, 15th and November, 15th of the year 2014. Data was gathered using the Pregnant Women Identification Form and the CCQ during face-to-face interviews. Linguistic equivalence of the questionnaire was established. In order to test content validity, expert opinions were taken. Reliability was tested using item-total correlations and internal consistency analysis. Principal components analysis was conducted in order to evaluate construct validity. Results: Following the analysis of item total correlation coefficients, the number of items was decreased to 9. The internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach α) was found to be 0.75; while the mean total score was determined to be 31.77 ± 7.19. Factor analysis of the CCQ revealed 3 factors; which were named as physical (4 items), psycho-spiritual (2 items), and enviromental (3 items).Conclusion: It was determined that the 9-item version is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used for evaluating the childbirth comfort of pregnant women in the Turkish population.
