    The Preschool Educators Views about the Criteria for Selecting Children’s Book

  • Abstract
    The purpose of this study is to investigate the criteria that preschool educators consider while selecting children’s books. Within this context, the criteria in selecting children books are determined as physical and content properties of the books, appropriateness for child development and type of book. The sample group of the study consists of 80 preschool teachers who work at 15 different private and public preschools administered by the Ministry of Education. The questionnaire including 24 questions in total was used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through SPSS 20.0.The findings indicate that while preschool educators have sufficient amount of knowledge about the physical properties of the book, they pay less attention to the author and the publisher of the book. Furthermore, the education level of the educators creates a meaningful difference in the book selection process.
