Comparative Analysis of Productivity and Efficiency for Electricity Generation Sector of Some OECD Countries and Turkey

Nowadays, the requirement for energy has been increasing progressively more and more. Correspond to rapidly increasing demand, many countries want to make their field of electricity more effective and fruitful. In this study, among Turkey and twenty two OECD member’s electricity producing sectors are compared by non parametric data envelopment analysis from the period 2006 to 2012. In order to make this research, first of all, the input and output variables which provide comparability of these countries’ electricity producing sectors are determined, next efficiency evaluation is done by EMS Programme. This efficiency evaluation was applied each year covering the period 2006-2012. According to the result of the analysis, the countries which are active or non-active have been identified and solution methods have been offered to some countries which are non-active to become active. There hasn’t been any overall evaluation for the 2006-2012 period, yet time format hasn’t been added to data envelopment analysis. In order to make overall evaluation Malmquist total factor productivity index was included to the research and the related comments were made on total factor productivity and efficiency change in elements.
