The Position Of Anatolian Minstrelsy Radition in The Ritual (Cem) and Non-Ritual Turkish Folk Music Performance

In this study, the position of minstrelsy (âşık) phenomenon has been analyzed in the Anatolian culture. The meaning of âşık in this context is minstel. It has been confirmed that the word âşık in the Arabic language and the word ışık in the Turkish language have the same origin. It has been stated that Anatolia minstrelsy tradition is a speeching and performing skill which is used for every subject and it is resulted from the quotation strategy of oral tradition. It has also been stated that the minstelsy tradition is produced through the medium of literature which has formal rules because it is a product of oral tradition. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that minstelsy tradition has more active application in the Alevi culture, accordingly minstelsy tradition is not only applied for non-religious music but also for religious music which is adapted to cem ceremony. Finally, it has been concluded that minstrelsy tradition is adapted to cem ceremony through the medium of substituting the music terms and performance terms; in other words minstrelsy tradition is adapted through the medium of adumbrating the ontology of music in the religious music practices.
