Investigation of Nutritional Habits in White Collar Employees

Objective: This descriptive research was performed in order to determine the nutritional knowledge and nutritional habits of the white collar employees. Material and Methods: The universe consisted of 168 white collar employees who currently works in the maincampus of Istanbul University. No sampling methods were used in this study. The sample consists of 130 white collar employees who has accepted to participate to in the study. The data were collected using data forms which was prepared by researchers between June-July 2012. The analysis of the data was obtained by using descriptive statistical in SPSS 12.0 Results: Of 130 employees, 58 (% 44.6) were men and 72 (% 55.4) were women. The mean age of the study population was 36.3±9.24. The mean body mass index of employees were 24.98±4.41. It was determined that smoking and sex affect nutritional habit score but regular alcohol drinking and doing sports regularly were not significantly affect nutrition knowledge score. Discussion: The incidence of obesity (overweight) has been increasing in the recent years all over the world. For this reason increasing the level of information for healthy eating and physical activity should be encouraged.
