  • Abstract
Objective: It will be researched the effects of hypoxia on the auditory brain stem response for patients who have obstructive sleep apneasy ndrome (OSAS). Material and Methods: The results of brain stem audiometry were compared to three different patient groups consisting of 31 persons having OSAS with the control group consisting of 10 persons with the diagnosis of simplesnoring. Results: It was analyzedamong the control group and the groups of patients in terms of I,III,V. wavelatenciesand the irinterpeaklatencies values. It was confirmed not to be different for the sevalues in the group with the mild OSAS. While wavelatency III was statistically hold up in the group with moderate OSAS, wavelatencies I,III,Vandinterpeaklatency I-III values were also hold up in the group with severe OSAS.The rate of period in which the patients sleepoxygen saturation beingless than %80 during the sleep in the total sleep time was evaluated. It was understood that this rate is significantly higher for the group with severe OSAS compared too ther patient groups. Conclusion: It was thought that the cochlear nucleusneurons which is generating site of wave III, will be more sensitive tohypoxia than the generating sites of other waves. It was found that the results of brains temaudiometry aresignificantly different for the patient group with severe OSAS. It was thought that the effects of hypoxiato be seenmore severe ratestobrainstem can be caused this situation in this patient group.
