    Comparison of Central Corneal Thickness Measurements with Scheimpflug Photography, Optical Coherence Tomography and Ultrasonic Pachymetry Techniques

  • Abstract
    Objective: To compare Scheimpflug photography(SP), optical coherence tomography(OCT) and ultrasonic pachymetry(USP) techniques in central corneal thickness(CCT) measurement. Material and Methods: The CCT was measured in 43 healthy young adults(86 eyes in total) by using SP, OCT and USP). Central corneal thickness, age, gender, intraocular pressure and auto refractokeratometer values obtained and used for comparison. Results: The mean age of was 21,35 ± 0,75 (20-24) years. The mean CCT with USP was 558,42 ± 38,87 (477-620) microns for right eye and 556,84 ± 39,83 (477-641) microns for left eye. The mean CCT with SP was 555,02 ± 37,90 (486- 631) microns for right eye and 550,44 ± 42,30 (453-630) microns for left eye. The mean CCT with OCT was 563, 52 ± 38,52 (492-644 microns for right eye and 550563,72 ± 39,84 (482-644) microns for left eye. Stataistically significant correlation found between OCT-USP (P 0.003) and OCT-SP (P 0.001). OCT measurement was significantly higher then other methods (about 7 micron). There was no statistically significant difference between USP-SP. Conclusion: CCT measurements with USP and SP were relevant. OCT measurements were significantly higher and others. This situation should be noted in regular CCT measurements.
