Abstract
Çoruh Valley is located in the eastern part of Black Sea Region. The settlements and the population are accumulated particularly in the plains and lower hillsides in the base of the valley. Moving to east and north-east through Çoruh Valley, the settlements are lined up in narrow areas in the base of the valley and on the hillsides due to the increase in the altitude and the importance of the slope values. The rough topography of the area has caused the settlements to be in a scattered form. The settlements in the investigation region are located at various levels of altitudes. Therefore, the population varies with the settlements and it is dispersed between 100m and 1800m. Because of the geographic conditions such as the climate, land forms, and vegetation; the population is accumulated in the base of the valley and on the lower hillsides since they are the most suitable places to develop the settlements.
