Abstract
Profitability of banking sector has a great importance for the future of the economy. At the end of the research which is carried out between the 1990-2008 years using the “Panel Data Analysis Method” in order to identify the determinants of the profitability in the banking sector; it is pointed out that the variables special to banks such as capital adequacy, operational costs, liquidity, size, security portfolio and nonaccruing loans have a significant effect on the return of assets. Besides, rate of economic growth, sector share, intensity and economic crisis which are taken into the model as control variables generally having significant impacts on banking sector profitability.
