Abstract
This study examines the philosophical foundations of the modern state concept. The purpose of this study is to reveal the modern theories of state. Modern theories of the state as Niccolo Machiavelli, Jean Bodin, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau and Emmanuel Sieyés’in theories were examined. The modern state theory, Niccolo Machiavelli’s of divinity in the first free, secular political power began to fiction. Then, I suggested the concept of sovereignty, Bodin, and showed his qualities. Hobbes social contract theory, has provided a theoretical basis by devoloping the idea of the modern state. The limitation of state power, John Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau’s theory of popular sovereignty, Emmanuel Sieyés defended the theory of the sovereignty of the nation.
