The Analysis of the Fantastic Story “Dead”

Abstract
Maupassant (1850-1893), one of the most important figures not only in French literature, but also in world literature, wrote almost 300 literary works most of which are stories in his short life. His name is like a synonym to fantastic literature. Maupassant style stories are mentioned even in world story literature. The short titles he gave to his stories are like a reflection of his inner world. Moreover, the introduction, body and conclusion parts of his stories are also short just like his short life and short stories. He writes his literary works in a plain and intimate tone. In his short story ‘The Dead’, the plot is given through strong feelings and his attempt to depict reality is seen. This attempt is portrayed with a combination of love, death, and woman in accordance with fantastic genre. The writer reveals his world perspective via these terms. Within this context, the analysis of the story aims to reveal this and tries to show its fantastic aspect.
