The Investigation of Empathic Skills of Social Sciences Teachers in Terms of Some Variables

This study was carried out with situation of Social Studies teachers’ empathic skills according to some variances. In the study, Survey Method were used. Determining the empathic skills of Social Studies teachers in terms of some variances makes up the quantitative scope of the study. Social Studies teachers serving in 2010 – 2011 Education year in Erzurum City, Aziziye, Palandöken and Yakutiye counties make up the population of the research. Empathy Tendency Scale (EEÖ) developed by Dökmen (1988) was used in order to determine the empathic skills of teachers in terms of some variances. The data obtained conveniently for its purposes was analyzed using frequency in SSPS arithmetic average ( X), Kruskal Wallis Test and t-test. According to findings, average of empathy skill points of Social Studies teachers changes according to variances of gender, education level, professional position, the last field finalized (in teaching / considered essential in the profession), attendance to the on the job training course.
