Abstract
In the 19th century, a lot of philosophers began to challenge the understanding of an active traditional God in the West. In the period of Enlightenment, the problem of values were largely excluded from the agenda of philosophy. In the 19th century, positivism stated that the objectivity of science can be achieved through the values of independence and impartiality, which are even essential conditions of science. In the second half of the 19th century, Nietzsche wanted to break down a tradition from inside that the great thinkers did not have the courage to shake the foundation of it and he wanted to complete it by passing Superman instead of God. Nietzsche tried to show the causes of the depression of values and the ways of how to overcome depression. In this study, the Western metaphysical tradition of Nietzsche and reckoning with nihilism that this tradition brought us will be handled.
