Abstract
This study aims to search out Turkish university students’ perceptions on the concept of Japanese by the help of metaphors. The study group of the research consists of the students of Namık Kemal University in Turkey. In this research, the statement “Japanese is like …, because …” is addressed to the students and they are asked for drawing a metaphoric analogy to the concept of Japanese. This study, in which a qualitative research is carried out, is for determining the students’ approach to Japanese and for finding out the reasons of such approaches. As a result, it is seen that 135 students forming the study group express Japanese with 73 metaphors.
