Abstract
The year of 2016 has been declared as “International Pulse Year” by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in order to point out the legume family which also Turkey pioneered the cultivation and so as to raise awareness on the subject of the benefits of leguminosae. In this study, with reference to the given decision, the lentil has been discussed for its various sides in the scope of Agricultural Geography and consequently it has been made suggestions about what to do for the activity. In terms of agricultural history it is noteworthy because of the fact that Turkey is located in the gene center of lentil and also for the resason of that Turkey is one of the first cultured field. Lentil as such a product of significant changes in Turkish agricultural life has a special and important place in commercial and cultural life of Turkey. While Turkey has taken place on the top at the world lentil production for many years and at the same time has had determining also the international trade of this product, it has lost its supremacy at the time. By 2014 despite the fact that as the 33 % a significant portion of legume cultivation areas in Turkey has been set apart, the country was ranked at lentil production 4th in the World.
