Abstract
Beymelek Lagoon is the only natural lagoon in the western coasts of Mediterranean Region in Turkey. The lagoon is located between 36°16’N - 30° 03’E’ in the west of Finike Gulf. The lagoon was formed by the disruption of the connection of a bay, which constituted the structural depression face of Gülmez Mountain anticlinal in the west with the Mediterranean Sea. Accumulation of the alluvium of Demre Creek, which pours into Mediterranean in the west, in front of the bay as a set by the dominant southwest wing, tides and currents had a role in the formation of the lagoon. Lagoon lake collects the surface and groundwater of an approximately 40 sqm area. The lake has an area of 255 ha.There are two small islands in the lagoon lake. The aim of this study is to explain the Limnologic and Geomorphic Properties of Beymelek Lagoon.
