Abstract
The objective of this study is an overall evaluation of the devolution reform of Scotland in 1998. Since the mid-70’s, regional and ethnic demands have been challenging the integrity of the nation states. The response to a similar tendency in Wales and Scotland is the acknowledgement of a certain degree of autonomy of the relevant regions. This limited autonomy has not turned UK into a federal state from a unitary one. Yet, the post-reform structure of the country exhibits now, certain traits, which are alien to the unitary state. Thus, the centerperiphery relations between Scotland and London, stand as a considerable example which merits a study.
