Abstract
Social media, with its user amount, has reached a point, which all sectors and associations have to participate, and it became an indispensable part of communications projects. There are many advantages of social media channels when it is compared to traditional media. Obviously, the participation of public institutions on social media is going to contribute to the public relations, increase in transparency of institutions and trust of citizens to institutions, and interaction between institutions and citizens. Also, it contributes to encouragement of citizens in takin gpart in the projects and making e-government applications morecommon. In this study, which aims to identify and assess the usage of social media of main institutions in Turkey, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube official accounts of the main institutions of government of Turkish Republic, which are Turkish, governorates were examined at initial stage. Secondly, the content of the institutions they share social media in the official social media pages were examined. Inconclusion, it is found that governorates haven t comprehended the importance of social media yet. The majority of the governorates that participate on social media prefer only sharings visual and informational content, also avoid interacting with their followers
