    THE IMPACT OF THE SPACE ON GEMEINSCHAFT RELATIONSHIP NETWORK: THE CASE OF DEAD-END STREET

  • Abstract
    This paper analyzes dead-end streets in the context of main arguments of the sociology of space. The study aims to examine how sociality constructs and transforms space in conjunction with continuity-temporality dimension, on the contrary in what ways space influences social life and which changes arise in actions of individuals within the context of dead-end streets. It is conducted on residents in 18 dead-end streets at İstanbul/Fatih and 32 residents consisting of 19 women 13 men are interviewed within the study. The paper is indicated that residents experience some changes regarding spatial perceptions and the process of spatial integration as well as spatial and social dynamics also needs to be analyzed in conjunction with spatial continuity. It is discussed that spatial continuity affects gemeinschaft relationships among residents, as a social indicator space hosts different practices with permanence and temporality conditions.
