Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the relationship between social entrepreneurship activity and the national culture of a country. The Social Entrepreneurship Effectiveness (SEA) indices from the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring (GEM) study have been used as indicators of a country’s social entrepreneurship activity in two dimensions (The average prevalence rate of broad social entrepreneurial activity among nascent entrepreneurs in the start-up phase (SEA-SU-BRD) and the average prevalence rate of individuals who are currently leading an operating social entrepreneurial activity (SEA-OP-BRD)). The three cultural frameworks created by Hofstede, the GLOBE project, and Schwartz have been used to make cultural comparisons between countries. Correlation analyses have been utilized to reveal the relationships that were desired to be investigated. The most important result obtained according to the findings is that the relationship between the dimensions of the three cultural frameworks and the SEA-SU-BRD is not found. Again, a small number of sub-dimensions were found to be associated with SEA-OP-BRD. In this context, it can be said that it is difficult to talk about “social entrepreneurship culture” like entrepreneurship culture.
