Abstract
The primary objective of this research is to analyse the trends in violoncello education research in terms of their content and to assess the contribution of these research results to violoncello education and the practicability of the proposed recommendations. In this regard theses written in education faculties and articles published in journals of faculties of education related to cello education in Turkey were included in the study. The study is a case study and carried out in two phases with two qualitative data collection techniques. At first, the theses and articles regarding the violoncello education were compiled and analysed. 52 resources were evaluated with categorical analysis method according to predetermined categories. Then, the findings and suggestions of these research related to violoncello education were presented to 10 violoncello trainers to be evaluated for their contribution to the field and practicability of the recommendations. Interview data were analysed with the thematic method. In conclusion, it was observed that research on violoncello education focus on some specific issues, confirm the recognized issues of the field or methods/techniques that are already in use, and some of the novel suggestions are not practicable to violoncello education in Turkey. Based on these results, the following recommendations could bring novelty to the field: repetition in future research could be avoided by evaluating previous studies in detail; researchers could focus on experimental studies involving new methods, techniques, and approaches; studies on violoncello education should also aim both basic and volunteer music education.
