Abstract
The mathematical language used by teachers in the classroom is a mathematical input for children and is effective in the formation of their mathematical knowledge throughout their school period. The aim of this study was to examine the activities applied by preschool teachers in the classroom and reveal the natural mathematical language used by them. For this purpose, a total of three teachers including a fulltime teacher and a part-time teacher, working in a public kindergarten and one teacher working in a kindergarten within a primary school in the city center of Erzurum were observed in their classroom environment. Each teacher was observed twice a week in their class and the observations were examined, and collected under themes by the researchers via the content analysis method within the scope of relevant literature. According to the results of the study, it was observed that teachers frequently used statements related to natural mathematical language and classroom arrangement. Teachers included mathematical language most frequently within literacy activities, literacy and play activities. Among the planned activities; the least frequent use of mathematical language was involved in drama and motor/movement activities. It was observed that they most frequently touched upon the concepts of counting numbers within the content of the statements used.
