THE METAPHORICAL PERCEPTION OF THE CLASS TEACHER CANDIDATES REGARDING MULTIGRADE CLASS AND MULTIGRADE CLASS TEACHER

In this research, which aims to determine the perceptions of the class teacher candidates about the concept of multigrade class and multigrade class teacher through metaphors; 105 teacher candidates, who are studying in the senior class of AİBÜ Faculty of Education, Classroom Education Department in 2017-2018 academic year spring semester, participated. In the study, phenomenology from the qualitative research methods and for the analysis of collected data, content analysis technique have been used. The data of the survey have been collected through a meeting form with a missing statement such as The multigrade class is ... similar to/like; because ... and The multigrade class teacher is ... similar to/ like; because ... . During the data collection process teacher candidates were asked to write the first metaphor that comes to their minds about the multigrade class and the multigrade class teacher with the reasons. At the end of the study, 42 metaphors and 3 conceptual categories related to the concept of multigrade class, 41 metaphors and 5 types of conceptual categories for the multigrade classroom teacher have been created. As a result of the research, mostly the following metaphors have been created by prospective teachers for the multigrade class: garden, TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey), hodgepodge, rainbow, computer; for the multigrade class teacher the following metaphors have been created ; gardener, cook, farmer, head of the family, orchestra conductor, mother with many children, machine, sun, mineral water. Suggestions have been made according to the results obtained from the research.
