Abstract
The purpose of this research is to determine the sustainable development awareness of teacher candidates. The sample of the study involves 790 teacher candidates who are studying in Classroom Education, Social Studies Education and Science Education Departments at Kastamonu University Faculty of Education. When we examine the gender variable, the environmental- economic awareness scores of female teacher candidates are higher than the awareness of male teacher candidates. When the data are analysed according to the class level variable, sophomore and junior students have higher awareness. These classes are followed by seniors and finally the freshman students. A significant difference is found in favor of classroom education students in the department variable. Finally, when we examine the relationship between sustainable development scale dimensions, there is a high positive correlation between environmental-ethics awareness scores and, social factors awareness scores. In addition, there is a low positive correlation among environmental-ethical awareness and environmental-economic awareness scores and among social-social awareness and environmental-economic awareness scores.
