Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of transformational learning theory applications on the attitudes towards the environment of secondary school 5^th grade students. Pre test-post test quasi-experimental design has been used in study. The study group consisted of 34 students studying 5th grades of a public school located in the central district of a province in the Aegean in the 2017-2018 academic year. Transformational learning theory was used as teaching activities in the experiment group consist of 18 students and the science curriculum were used as teaching activities in the control group consist of 16 students. The application of the transformational learning theory of the 5^th grade science course was carried out in 11 class hours on “Human and Environment” unit, “Human and Environment Relation” topic. Environment Attitude Scale was used as data collection tool. Mann Whitney U and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks analyzes were used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, it was found that the post-test scores of the experimental group students environment attitude scale differed significantly from the post-test scores of the control group students. In the light of the findings, suggestions were given.
