The Climatic Characteristics of Erzindan and The Trend Analysis of Long-Term (1930-2020) Temperature and Precipitation Data Recorded in Erzincan

In this study, using the long-term (1930-2020) observation data from Erzincan, the 90-year climatic course of the Erzincan Plain and its immediate surroundings was taken as a basis, and the general climatic characteristics were determined by evaluating the climatic elements. In addition, trend analyzes were performed with the Mann-Kendall and Sen method based on annual average temperature and precipitation values. Erzincan has different characteristics compared to its surroundings in terms of climatic characteristics in Turkey and the Eastern Anatolia Region. With the effect of orography and aspect factor, local climate conditions are experienced in Erzincan compared to its surroundings. In Erzincan, the long-term average annual temperature is 10.9°C and the annual average precipitation is 367.2 mm. The lowest temperatures are measured in January with –5.9ºC in some years, and the highest temperature is measured in July with 31.6ºC. The annual average number of sunny days is 105.4 and the number of cloudy days is around 197.9. In Erzincan, the annual average pressure value has been recorded as 878.1 mb for many years and the prevailing wind direction is ESE with a blow number of 46052. In Erzincan, where there is a lack of water, the soil is generally dry and therefore the vegetation consists of steppe formations. Considering these features, it is seen that continental climate conditions are experienced in Erzincan. According to the results of Mann-Kendall and Sen analysis, there is an increasing trend in temperature values and a decreasing trend in precipitation values in the long term.
