Abstract
A removable disk drive is a rotating machine where the disk may be clamped and released many times on the drive spindle. The errors produced in the process when the clamping axis does not coincide with the axis of rotation are studied here. Simple expressions are obtained for the statistical expectation M (A) and variance σ2(A) where A is a random variable such as "off-track". Error contribution caused by component tolerances of the disk, the clamp, the spindle and the bearings. One general and two particular cases are considered.
