Abstract
The growing importance of verification technology in the wake of US-Soviet disarmament agreements is discussed. For the most recent generation of pacts, the United States is depending heavily, but not as exclusively as before, on remote sensing. The capabilities of US and Soviet reconnaissance satellites are examined, with emphasis on the US´s Lacrosse radar satellite. Technology being developed to monitor activities onsite within hostile borders is also described.<>
