Abstract
Compensation for the temperature dependence of magnetic flux has been investigated in the ´2:17´ type permanent magnet alloys. A computer assisted composition selection procedure was adapted and one of the identified compositions, Sm1.18 Dy.81 Gd.01 Co9.76 Fe4.19 Cu.83 Zr.34 , was processed into magnets. The measured temperature coefficients correlated satisfactorily with the prediction. Dysprosium was found to be a better substituent for Sm than either Gd or Er in providing temperature coefficient of linearity.
