Abstract
This paper describes a method of NTSC compatible encoding and decoding of chrominance and luminance. Artifacts such as cross color, cross luminance, and "hanging dots" (an artifact usually appearing when conventional comb filters are used in TV receivers) are greatly reduced, while horizontal and vertical resolution is preserved. Special processing at the transmitter involving 8 to 10 line delays as well as during decoding at the receiver involving 10 to 12 line delays is required. With these modifications, NTSC can still be used in today\´s market place with increasing demands for picture quality.
