Abstract
Experimental studies of the saturation magnetization 4πMs , the saturation magnetostriction λs and galvanomagnetic properties of Co-M (M: early transition metal) have been systematically carried out at room temperature. The composition dependence of 4πMs , of the anisotropic magnetoresistance Δ ρ/ρ0 and of λs are seen to depend on the valence difference between Co and M. The dependence of 4πMs on the composition reflects Friedel´s theory. λs and Δ ρ/ρ0 depend on the number of electrons in the outer shell which varies with M. The quantum mechanical side jump mechanism is found to dominate the extraordinary Hall effect Rs .
