Abstract
Users of power transformers often ask if the nameplate rating may be exceeded so that some exceptionally large load may be supplied. The cyclical nature of loads suggests that it may be possible to exploit the inherent delays in the thermal response of a transformer to changes in heating. Using accepted formulae and international standards, the authors shows that, in particular cases, loads exceeding rated values may be sustained
