Abstract
An operation that permutes symbols in a sequence is used for several coding algorithms. The probability distribution of the permuted source is investigated, where the permutation is selected at random with a uniform distribution. Moreover, the entropy of the permuted source and the mutual information shared by the original and permuted sources are derived.
