  • Abstract
    It is demonstrated that the number of modes in an array of gain-guided lasers can exceed the number of elements even when each element only supports one mode. Therefore the number of array modes cannot be found using coupled-mode theory. This has implications for the design and analysis of gain-guided arrays.
