Abstract
A new type of prefabricated joint (PJ) for 154 kV XLPE (cross-inked polyethylene) cables has been developed to meet the requirement for reduced site assembly time and quick recovery from failures. This joint can be assembled much more quickly than the conventional molded joint and can be installed in the limited space of manholes for oil-filled cables. All tests, including thermo-mechanical tests and long-term load cycling tests, have been completed satisfactorily. It has been verified that the prefabricated joint has satisfactory initial and long-term electrical performance. The use of the PJ has cut the site assembly time to approximately one third that required for the molded joint
