Abstract
Some interesting studies of the unbalanced tensions produced by heavy ice loadings on long spans supported by suspension insulators were made in the course of designing the rec ntly completed Wallenpaupack-Siegfried 220-kv. line of the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company. These studies included investigations of the effects produced on suspension insulator construction by a broken conductor. Computations were verified in an approximate way by experiments on a one-mile section of the actual line. For the most part, results are given in diagrammatic form, in sufficient detail to allow both analysis and approximate application to similar problems.
