Abstract
The composition dependence of the magnetization of Mn-Al-B alloys can be interpreted quantitatively on the basis of the known magnetization value of an MnB(1:1) alloy and the following assumption: the Mn-Al-B alloy consists of an MnB(1:1) phase and an MnAl (remaining Mn:Al) phase, and the magnetization of this MnAl phase is equal to that of Mn-Al binary alloy with the same composition. The coercive forces of two phases in the Mn-Al-B alloy can be obtained separately from the

curve. Examination of the composition dependence of each coercive force reasonably shows that the two phases are the MnB and MnAl phases assumed above. This also suggests the presence of a magnetostatic interaction between the two phases.
