Abstract
Experimental data on emissivity and backscattering properties of sea ice are presented. Measurements were conducted in East and West Soviet regions of the Arctic Ocean during recent years with the IL-18 airborne laboratory and the AN-2 aircraft. The equipment installed on board the aircraft provided simultaneous
-band side looking airborne radar (SLAR) images and radiometric data at wavelengths from 0.8 to 30 cm along the flight paths. Use of these measurements for sea ice studies is discussed.
