Abstract
The effects of gas additives on optical gain of the CO chemical laser (CL) have been measured for N2 , SO2 , H2 , HF, CF4 , CCl2 F2 , CO, OCS, N2 O, and NO. One of the more unusual additives, NO, has been used to control the output spectrum of a laser oscillator by controlled sequential quenching of the high bands. The significance of these results for total power enhancement, output spectrum control, and alternate diluent use is discussed.
